HOW THE TRUEGRASS BAND CAME ABOUT

The Truegrass Band was formed from humble beginnings. It all started as a weekend jam

session group that would meet on Saturday night at the Flatridge Community Center and

perform before a live audience.

The group consisted in those days of Emory Parks,Freel Taylor,Bob Purkey, and Wayne Thomas

Sometime in the early winter months of late 2004 or early 2005 someone suggested that this

"group" become an active band. From that point onward the group actively began searching

for additional members, material and locations in which to work.

In the spring of 2005 (when all the flowers were in bloom) the band crossed paths with a

super talented mandolin picker and singer by the name of Jack Wells. Jack being no stranger

to the bluegrass music scene(from working in various groups in northern Va)fit in perfectly

and began giving 110% to the bands sound.

Later on vetran member Bob Purkey elected to retire from the group due to impending health

concerns. Bob felt if he was not able to give his best the band would suffer and with that being

said went into semi retirement.  Truegrass came upon the talented Travis Houck by a recommendation from a current member who had worked with Travis in another band sometime back.

Travis does some wonderful Dobro work on both solo instrumentals and the groups vocal offerings.Travis currently attends ETSU in Johnson City Tn.

Other vetran members Emory Parks, Freel Taylor and Wayne Thomas round out the Truegrass

sound with a considerable amount of experience under their belts to boot.

Truegrass always strives to please their audiences by doing the tunes they request when possible. With the idea that the audience is a very important part of any groups personna

Truegrass would like to convey a very special THANK YOU to everyone who has supported

the group from its humble beginnings to its present state!!  We offer an invitation to come

be with us when we are in your area...a family oriented program is guarranteed!
